R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Theodore Robert Herman has completed the rigorous 1-2 requirements necessary to attain the rank of Eagle Scout, and this 1-3 achievement is truly deserving of special legislative recognition; 1-4 and 1-5 WHEREAS, A valued member of Boy Scout Troop 604 in Houston, 1-6 Eagle Scout Herman has demonstrated important leadership skills by 1-7 serving as senior patrol leader and assistant patrol leader; as a 1-8 senior in Waltrip High School's fast-paced program, he employs many 1-9 of the practical lessons he has learned from scouting in his 1-10 pursuit of academic excellence; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Mr. Herman is active in his school's marching band, 1-12 serving as head section leader and head equipment manager, and this 1-13 talented young man is also first chair euphonium in the symphonic 1-14 band; in addition, he serves as historian of the German Club and 1-15 treasurer of Future Home Makers of America; and 1-16 WHEREAS, A member of the Science Club, he developed and 1-17 participated in his club's winning Odyssey of the Mind project and 1-18 won first place honors in the regional science competition; his 1-19 design and construction of a toy plane earned him a third place 1-20 prize at the Texas State Competition for industrial technology, and 1-21 he is responsible for the creation of the Waltrip High School web 1-22 page; and 1-23 WHEREAS, For his Eagle Scout project, this industrious 1-24 individual painted the exterior of the St. Vincent de Paul Village 2-1 apartment complex; he is involved in several programs sponsored by 2-2 St. Vincent de Paul and he has assisted his fellow scouts with many 2-3 other Eagle Scout projects that have benefited the community, as 2-4 well; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Mr. Herman is a longstanding member of St. Ambrose 2-6 Catholic Church, where he serves as an acolyte and minister of 2-7 hospitality and stays active in the church's many excellent youth 2-8 programs; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Mr. Herman is a source of great pride to his family 2-10 and friends, particularly to his parents, Richard and Carol Herman, 2-11 and on June 7, 1997, they will gather with his fellow scouts at St. 2-12 Stephen's United Methodist Church for his Eagle Scout Court of 2-13 Honor; this young man's dedication to scouting and his community is 2-14 truly commendable, and it is a privilege to join in honoring him on 2-15 this truly significant occasion; now, therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-17 Legislature hereby congratulate Theodore Robert Herman on attaining 2-18 the rank of Eagle Scout and extend to him sincere best wishes for 2-19 continued success and happiness in the years to come; and, be it 2-20 further 2-21 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-22 prepared for Mr. Herman as an expression of high regard by the 2-23 Texas House of Representatives.
