R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Poets of East Texas is a civic asset of the 1-2 State of Texas that for several years has attempted to promote the 1-3 State's awareness of the art and craft of the written word; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The Poets of East Texas and its members strive to 1-5 enhance the appreciation of poetry, to encourage everyone in the 1-6 enjoyment of poetry, and to sponsor special events, including 1-7 poetry contests in the schools; and 1-8 WHEREAS, This exceptional group of Texas residents exercise 1-9 integrity and maturity in their own development of new poetry and 1-10 maintain an annual yearbook and anthology; and 1-11 WHEREAS, The Poets of East Texas supports and encourages new 1-12 poets in the State of Texas to hone their writing, singing, song 1-13 writing, play writing, and acting skills, thereby improving the 1-14 quality of the arts in the State of Texas; and 1-15 WHEREAS, In addition to their many community activities, the 1-16 members devote a large amount of their own personal time and energy 1-17 to encouraging up-and-coming poets, while attempting to continue 1-18 their own adult education in the arts; and 1-19 WHEREAS, Throughout the life of this organization, it has 1-20 exemplified high credibility in the arts community and maintained 1-21 integrity with other state poetry organizations; it is indeed 1-22 fitting that the Poets of East Texas, and its membership, be 1-23 honored for its countless activities in behalf of Texas residents; 1-24 now, therefore, be it 2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th 2-2 Legislature of the State of Texas hereby recognize the Poets of 2-3 East Texas for its exceptional contributions to the arts and to the 2-4 improvement of its community; and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That this, the 25th day of April 1997, be declared 2-6 Poets of East Texas Day; and, be it further 2-7 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared as a 2-8 memento of this notable event.
