                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, the Poets of East Texas is a civic asset of the

 1-2     State of Texas which for several years has attempted to promote the

 1-3     State's awareness of the art and craft of the written word; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, the Poets of East Texas and their members strive to

 1-5     enhance the appreciation of poetry, and encourage everyone in the

 1-6     enjoyment of poetry; and to sponsor special events including Poetry

 1-7     contests in the schools; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, this exceptional group of Texas residents exercise

 1-9     integrity and maturity in their own development of new poetry and

1-10     maintain an annual Yearbook and Anthology; and

1-11           WHEREAS, The poets of East Texas support and encourage new

1-12     poets in the State of Texas, to hone their writing, singing, song

1-13     writing, play writing, and acting skills, thereby improving the

1-14     quality of the arts in the State of Texas; and

1-15           WHEREAS, In addition to their many community activities, the

1-16     members devote a large amount of their own personal time and energy

1-17     to encouraging up-and-coming poets, while attempting to continue

1-18     their own adult education in the arts; and

1-19           WHEREAS, Throughout the life of this organization, it has

1-20     exemplified high credibility in the arts community, and maintained

1-21     integrity with other state poetry organizations; it is indeed

 2-1     fitting that the Poets of East Texas, and their membership, be

 2-2     honored for their countless activities in behalf of Texas

 2-3     residents; now, therefore, be it

 2-4           RESOLVED, that the 75th Legislature of the State of Texas

 2-5     hereby recognize the Poets of East Texas for their exceptional

 2-6     contributions to the arts, and to the improvement of their

 2-7     community; and, be it further

 2-8           RESOLVED, that this the 25th day of April 1997, be declared

 2-9     as Poets of East Texas Day; and, be it further

2-10           RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be prepared as a

2-11     memento of this notable event.
