R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Lynn B. Griffith on April 18, 1997,

 1-2     at the age of 88, and that of his wife, Dorothy H. Griffith, on

 1-3     March 16, 1997, at the age of 88, have brought a great loss to the

 1-4     family and many friends of this beloved Waxahachie couple; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Born July 16, 1908, in Palmer,          Mr. Griffith

 1-6     earned both a bachelor of arts degree and a law degree from Baylor

 1-7     University; Mrs. Griffith was born December 6, 1908, in Moody and

 1-8     was graduated from Baylor as well; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, The pair exchanged wedding vows on Mrs. Griffith's

1-10     22nd birthday, and for 66 years they enjoyed a deeply fulfilling

1-11     union that guided their family through all their endeavors; the

1-12     Griffiths' marriage was blessed with a cherished daughter, Marilynn

1-13     Winborne, and their family grew to include a grandson and two

1-14     great-grandchildren, each of whom was a source of immense pride and

1-15     joy for the couple; and

1-16           WHEREAS, The Griffiths were welcomed and industrious members

1-17     of the Waxahachie community; in addition to excelling in his

1-18     private law practice, Mr. Griffith served his fellow citizens for

1-19     two terms as criminal district attorney for Ellis County, and he

1-20     also worked for the betterment of the community through his

1-21     involvement in numerous organizations, including the Junior Chamber

1-22     of Commerce and the Chamber of Commerce, the Waxahachie Industrial

1-23     Foundation, the Waxahachie Housing Authority, and the Waxahachie

1-24     Lions Club, to name but a few; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, Mrs. Griffith dedicated herself to providing a warm

 2-2     and secure home life for the couple's family throughout their

 2-3     marriage; she consistently made time in her schedule to assist

 2-4     several worthy groups, including the Waxahachie Garden Club, the

 2-5     Century Club, and the Shakespeare Club, and she was named First

 2-6     Lady of Waxahachie in 1975 in recognition of her stalwart

 2-7     commitment; and

 2-8           WHEREAS, In all their endeavors, the Griffiths were sustained

 2-9     by an abiding faith as devout members of the First United Methodist

2-10     Church of Waxahachie, where they both participated in many

2-11     activities; they further contributed to their denomination in

2-12     leadership capacities, and their boundless devotion to the Lord was

2-13     a source of inspiration to many in the congregation; and

2-14           WHEREAS, In serving their family, their community, and their

2-15     church, Lynn and Dorothy Griffith gave selflessly to those around

2-16     them and left a legacy of compassion and love, and though they are

2-17     gone from us now, their unique spirits will long endure in the

2-18     hearts and minds of the many people whose lives they touched; now,

2-19     therefore, be it

2-20           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-21     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the lives of Lynn B. Griffith and

2-22     Dorothy H. Griffith and extend deepest sympathy to the members of

2-23     their family: to their daughter, Marilynn Winborne; to their

2-24     grandson, Lynn G. Winborne; to their great-grandchildren, Byron and

2-25     Amanda Winborne; and to their many other friends and relatives;

2-26     and, be it further

2-27           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 3-1     prepared for the members of their family and that when the Texas

 3-2     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

 3-3     Lynn B.  Griffith and Dorothy H. Griffith.
