R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Over the past three decades, Jim Culberson has
1-2 earned great renown for his expertise in the field of campaign
1-3 planning and political graphics and design, and the Texas House of
1-4 Representatives is proud to honor him for his many achievements;
1-5 and
1-6 WHEREAS, Born October 23, 1928, in the community of Lone Oak,
1-7 Mr. Culberson grew up among the Piney Woods of East Texas; like
1-8 many of his generation, he interrupted his education to answer his
1-9 country's call to arms during World War II, and he also served with
1-10 distinction in the Korean War; and
1-11 WHEREAS, While a student at the University of New Mexico, he
1-12 fell in love with Eleanor Abney, and the couple married in 1950; he
1-13 completed his college education at the University of Houston, and
1-14 after working as an art director for a Houston advertising agency,
1-15 he established his own graphics studio in 1953; and
1-16 WHEREAS, He went on to teach art and photography at the
1-17 University of Houston, St. Thomas University, and the Museum of
1-18 Fine Arts, but his career took a new path when he handled the
1-19 photography, cinematography, and graphic design for Senator John
1-20 Tower's reelection campaign in 1966; his remarkable talent and
1-21 media savvy quickly became apparent, and he has become a much
1-22 sought after force in the campaign world; and
1-23 WHEREAS, Throughout his distinguished career as a political
1-24 counselor, Mr. Culberson has performed voter analysis and strategic
2-1 campaign planning for nearly 200 congressional, gubernatorial, and
2-2 other statewide races around the nation, and he worked with several
2-3 aspiring presidential candidates as well, including former
2-4 President Ronald Reagan; known for his unrelenting perfectionism
2-5 and dedication to quality, he has limited his work in recent years
2-6 to local races, enabling him to work directly with candidates while
2-7 maintaining full creative involvement, and his impressive resume
2-8 includes work on the following campaigns:

7-17 with enthusiasm and learned counsel, his own son, Representative
7-18 John Culberson, to the Texas Legislature; and
7-19 WHEREAS, In all aspects of his life and career, Jim Culberson
7-20 has embodied the highest standards of integrity and excellence; his
7-21 example of hard work and dedication has been an inspiration to all
7-22 who know him, and he is indeed deserving of legislative recognition
7-23 at this time; now, therefore, be it
7-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
7-25 Legislature hereby honor Jim Culberson for his many professional
7-26 and civic contributions and extend to him warmest best wishes for
7-27 continued success and happiness; and, be it further
8-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
8-2 prepared for Mr. Culberson as an expression of high regard by the
8-3 Texas House of Representatives.
