By Lewis of Tarrant H.R. No. 732 75R13022 SAJ-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to 1-2 congratulate Royce G. Brooks on her recognition by the National 1-3 Achievement Scholarship Program for Outstanding Negro Students; and 1-4 WHEREAS, A senior at Dunbar High School's magnet program, the 1-5 High School for Science and Engineering Professions, Ms. Brooks is 1-6 ranked seventh in her class of 212 and is a member of the National 1-7 Honor Society and the school's Math and Science Club; and 1-8 WHEREAS, She was named an Outstanding Freshman, Sophomore, 1-9 and Junior at Dunbar, where she has been recognized each year for 1-10 excellence in English and math, and she placed first in Fort Worth 1-11 in the annual Martin Luther King, Jr., essay and oratorical 1-12 contest; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Ms. Brooks graduated with honors in math and science 1-14 from the (MS)2 program at Phillips Academy in Andover, 1-15 Massachusetts, and received the maxima cum laude honor on the 1-16 National Latin Exam; and 1-17 WHEREAS, An All-American Scholar, she has been selected as a 1-18 Tandy Corporation Scholar each year since the eighth grade; in 1-19 addition, this impressive young woman is a National Merit 1-20 Scholarship finalist and a candidate for the Presidential Scholars 1-21 Program; and 1-22 WHEREAS, Royce Brooks has demonstrated exceptional 1-23 intelligence, initiative, and maturity in successfully pursuing her 1-24 academic and career goals, and it is truly a pleasure to recognize 2-1 her on the occasion of her most recent honor; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby congratulate Royce G. Brooks on her receipt of a 2-4 scholarship from the National Achievement Scholarship Program for 2-5 Outstanding Negro Students and extend to her warmest best wishes 2-6 for continued success and happiness in all her future endeavors; 2-7 and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for Ms. Brooks as an expression of high regard by the 2-10 Texas House of Representatives.
