R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Sergeant Robert E. O'Malley has demonstrated
1-2 exemplary allegiance to the United States of America and to the
1-3 State of Texas, and the members of this chamber wish to bestow on
1-4 him the title of Honorary Texan; and
1-5 WHEREAS, A retired member of the U.S. Marine Corps, Sergeant
1-6 O'Malley fought in Vietnam and is a recipient of America's Medal of
1-7 Honor for his gallantry and intrepidity at the risk of his own life
1-8 above and beyond the call of duty; and
1-9 WHEREAS, By placing his own life in jeopardy in order to
1-10 protect his squad, this heroic soldier has exemplified the
1-11 leadership skills and exceptional courage expected of individuals
1-12 who choose to become marines; his bravery in the face of enemy
1-13 fire, even after being wounded, allowed his comrades to safely
1-14 evacuate a hostile battleground, and this act has no doubt remained
1-15 in the minds of those men for many years; and
1-16 WHEREAS, Since relocating to Texas, this distinguished
1-17 veteran has established himself as one of Goldthwaite's most
1-18 respected citizens; his many accomplishments as a member of this
1-19 fine community have endeared him to his fellow residents and the
1-20 members of this chamber are proud to honor him at this time; now,
1-21 therefore, be it
1-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
1-23 Legislature hereby declare Robert E. O'Malley an Honorary Texan
1-24 with all the privileges and perquisites accorded those individuals
2-1 actually born on our state's hallowed soil; and, be it further
2-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-3 prepared for Sergeant O'Malley as formal proof of his new status.
