R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Blinn College Buccaneers football team has once 1-2 again ascended to the pinnacle of success by winning the 1996 1-3 National Junior College Athletic Association championship, becoming 1-4 the first junior college football team ever to win back-to-back 1-5 national titles; and 1-6 WHEREAS, The Buccaneers took the field in Excelsior Springs, 1-7 Missouri, determined to make history, and the team displayed true 1-8 championship heart throughout the course of the contest, dominating 1-9 third-ranked Coffeyville Community College both offensively and 1-10 defensively to win the coveted crown; and 1-11 WHEREAS, Dedication to excellence both individually and as a 1-12 team was a hallmark of the Buccaneers, whose members include Wayne 1-13 Limbrick, Teddy Robinson, Brandon Harrison, Michael Jackson, 1-14 Michael Bishop, Vaughn Inniss, Theoran Walker, Willie Jones, Darren 1-15 Sostand, Kenny Hill, Garrett Courtney, Eric Anderson, Chester 1-16 Barley, Quincy Morgan, Larry Davis, Hanson Caston, Mike Green, 1-17 Jamarcus Powers, Michael James, Jermaine Manning, Korley Ward, 1-18 Steve Newsome, John Heller, Lamont Truitt, David Mangan, Jamal 1-19 Davidson, Jean Dugas, Dashaun Richard, Glen Robinson, Cody Stelter, 1-20 Nick Gatto, T. J. Light, Lynn Hadnot, Brandon Jackson, Jeff 1-21 Kumpula, Bennie Mayes, Lamont Barrett, Craig Koontz, Frank 1-22 Firestone, Ron Robertson, Randy Dillon, Ellis Wright, Sam Aguilera, 1-23 Gary Childress, Larry Gaines, Rory Robertson, Randy Brought, 1-24 Humberto Gonzales, Toby Holmes, Weldon Williams, Jay Olive, Grant 2-1 Wilson, Ryan Gerke, Cedric Robinson, Ryan Douglas, Henry Davis, 2-2 Michael Courville, Chris Fontenot, Shawn Richards, Joe Gibson, 2-3 Roderick Callies, John David Baker, Shockmain Davis, Abasi Thomas, 2-4 Marcus Cossey, Ray Lacey, and John Davis; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Having completed the 1996 campaign with a perfect 2-6 record of 12 victories and no defeats, the Buccaneers have now won 2-7 24 consecutive games and stand at the threshold of establishing a 2-8 gridiron dynasty; and 2-9 WHEREAS, Head coach Willie E. Fritz instilled in each team 2-10 member the desire to perform at the highest possible level, while 2-11 at the same time stressing academic achievement, good 2-12 sportsmanship, and team unity, and he was ably supported in these 2-13 goals by athletic director Don Wilhelm, assistant coaches Jeff 2-14 Conway and Donn Landholm, athletic assistant coaches Chuck Pope and 2-15 Scott Baehren, athletic trainer James Parker, student coaches Brian 2-16 Graham and Curt Faigle, student managers/trainers Brad Hemann, 2-17 Larry Rosenbaum, Kyle Zickefoose, and Matt Kirk, and student 2-18 secretary Melinda Wilson; and 2-19 WHEREAS, These dedicated young players, along with their 2-20 coaches and staff, are a tremendous source of pride to the students 2-21 and faculty of Blinn College and their many supporters in the 2-22 community, and their phenomenal achievements indeed merit special 2-23 legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-25 Legislature hereby congratulate Coach Willie E. Fritz and the 2-26 members of the Blinn College Buccaneers football team on winning 2-27 their second consecutive National Junior College Athletic 3-1 Association championship and extend to them sincere best wishes for 3-2 continued success in the future; and, be it further 3-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-4 prepared for the team members and coaching staff as an expression 3-5 of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
