R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor

 1-2     Laura Harring for her many significant contributions to this state

 1-3     and the El Paso community; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A native of Sinaloa, Mexico, she moved with her

 1-5     family to El Paso in 1978 and became a naturalized citizen the

 1-6     following year; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, Ms. Harring attended schools in the Lone Star State

 1-8     before graduating from Aiglon College in Switzerland and after a

 1-9     year of world travel, she returned to the United States and began

1-10     her career as a model; and

1-11           WHEREAS, She won the first beauty pageant she entered when

1-12     she was selected Miss El Paso in 1984 and went on to represent her

1-13     fellow Texans as Miss Texas-USA; she was crowned Miss USA in 1985,

1-14     earning further distinction as the first Hispanic woman and the

1-15     second Texan to win that title, and she went on to finish among the

1-16     top 10 finalists in the Miss Universe Pageant that year; and

1-17           WHEREAS, In addition to her noteworthy accomplishments in

1-18     these areas, Ms. Harring is also well known as an actress; she

1-19     currently plays the character Paula Stevens on the popular daytime

1-20     television drama Sunset Beach, and has previously appeared in

1-21     several series, including General Hospital, Alien Nation, Baywatch,

1-22     and Flipper, and the television film The Alamo: Thirteen Days to

1-23     Glory; and

1-24           WHEREAS, She has brought her talents to the silver screen as

 2-1     well and has entertained her loyal fans with performances in the

 2-2     films The Forbidden Dance--Lambada and Exit to Eden; and

 2-3           WHEREAS, Her vast achievements have made her a positive role

 2-4     model to countless young women, and she has demonstrated that with

 2-5     hard work and determination, they too can reach their highest

 2-6     potential; now, therefore, be it

 2-7           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-8     Legislature hereby congratulate Laura Harring on her career success

 2-9     and extend to her warmest best wishes for continued happiness in

2-10     all her future endeavors; and, be it further

2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-12     prepared for Ms. Harring as an expression of high regard by the

2-13     Texas House of Representatives.
