R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, Silver Creek Materials Recycling and Compost, Inc.,
1-2 was accorded a great honor recently when the company was named a
1-3 recipient of a 1997 Governor's Award for Environmental Excellence,
1-4 and this notable achievement is indeed deserving of special
1-5 legislative recognition; and
1-6 WHEREAS, These prestigious awards are cosponsored by the
1-7 Texas Natural Resource Conservation Commission and Governor George
1-8 W. Bush; the awards recognize outstanding environmental protection
1-9 projects, and Silver Creek Materials was honored in the category of
1-10 small business; and
1-11 WHEREAS, Under the leadership of President Robert Dow, Silver
1-12 Creek Materials has developed an innovative program to reduce water
1-13 consumption by soaking compost piles with out-of-date soft drinks,
1-14 juices, milk, and other liquids rather than water; this
1-15 nutrient-rich solution expedites the composting process while
1-16 diverting more than three million gallons of organic liquids from
1-17 landfills each year; and
1-18 WHEREAS, The company's success in composting 100 percent of
1-19 the waste it takes in has set a remarkable example for other
1-20 companies to emulate; the business currently composts some 200,000
1-21 cubic yards annually, a figure representing nearly five percent of
1-22 Fort Worth's total waste stream; and
1-23 WHEREAS, By demonstrating that landfill alternatives can be
1-24 both efficient and economically viable, Silver Creek Materials has
2-1 set a new standard for the environmental services industry to
2-2 follow, and in the process, the company and its employees have
2-3 earned the respect and appreciation of all Texans; now, therefore,
2-4 be it
2-5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-6 Legislature hereby congratulate President Robert Dow and all the
2-7 employees of Silver Creek Materials Recycling and Compost, Inc., on
2-8 the company's receipt of a 1997 Governor's Award for Environmental
2-9 Excellence and extend to them warmest best wishes for continued
2-10 success in the future; and, be it further
2-11 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-12 prepared for the company as an expression of high regard by the
2-13 Texas House of Representatives.
