R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, With the observance of her 101st birthday on May 9, 1-2 1997, Marjorie Jackson of Dallas will commemorate yet another year 1-3 of accomplishment in her long and fruitful life; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Ms. Jackson was born and grew up in the Branch Field 1-5 community; although she has no children of her own, she has made a 1-6 special place in her heart for the many family members she helped 1-7 to care for, and she treasures the close relationships she shares 1-8 with her cousins, Robert and Christopher Humbr; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Ms. Jackson attended Bishop College, and she served 1-10 as a positive role model to countless young Texans as an English 1-11 teacher in the Dallas Independent School District, where she 1-12 taught for 40 years before retiring in 1968; and 1-13 WHEREAS, This remarkable woman has remained active in the 1-14 community through the years by assisting a number of worthy 1-15 organizations; a lifelong member of the National Association for 1-16 the Advancement of Colored People, she is a proud member of Delta 1-17 Sigma Theta sorority, and she has provided welcome financial 1-18 support to the YMCA, which honored her for her stalwart commitment; 1-19 and 1-20 WHEREAS, A recipient of the Parson's Award as well, she was 1-21 also granted a Scholastic Award by her alma mater, and her 1-22 noteworthy achievements have been a source of inspiration for many 1-23 people; and 1-24 WHEREAS, Ms. Jackson owes her longevity to both the Lord and 2-1 her strong moral fiber, and she renews her spiritual strength as a 2-2 longtime member of Mount Mariah Baptist Church, where she has 2-3 shared her faith with countless others as a leader of the Sunday 2-4 school class; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Throughout her rewarding lifetime, Marjorie Jackson 2-6 has brought joy and happiness to the many people whose lives she 2-7 has touched; a greatly admired member of her community, Ms. Jackson 2-8 has earned the special love and affection of all who are privileged 2-9 to know her; now, therefore, be it 2-10 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-11 Legislature hereby congratulate Marjorie Jackson on the occasion of 2-12 her 101st birthday and extend to her warmest best wishes for 2-13 continued good fortune and happiness; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-15 prepared for Ms. Jackson as an expression of high regard by the 2-16 Texas House of Representatives.
