R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Nelson Nolden's longtime tenure as band director at

 1-2     Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School has earned him the respect

 1-3     and admiration of his students and fellow teachers, and his

 1-4     dedication to education is truly deserving of special legislative

 1-5     recognition; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, A native of Dallas, Mr. Nolden attended high school

 1-7     in New Orleans and studied music education at Huntsville's Sam

 1-8     Houston State University; he earned his master's degree in music

 1-9     education from Lamar University before accepting his first

1-10     directorship at Hardin High School in Hardin, Texas; and

1-11           WHEREAS, In 1977, this noteworthy gentleman was hired as

1-12     assistant band director of Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School,

1-13     marking the beginning of his illustrious career at this

1-14     institution; two years later, he was named head band director, a

1-15     position he continues to hold today; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Mr. Nolden has helped to establish a tradition of

1-17     excellence during his years as band director, with many of his

1-18     former students going on to careers as professional musicians; one

1-19     of the high points of Mr. Nolden's career came during the 1989-1990

1-20     school year, when band members were selected as the Texas Music

1-21     Educators Association Class 4A State Honor Band; and

1-22           WHEREAS, The Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School marching

1-23     band has earned a 1st Division rating in the UIL Region Marching

1-24     Contest for 20 years, while the school's concert band owns a

 2-1     remarkable 19-year record of winning sweepstakes at the annual UIL

 2-2     Concert/Sight-Reading Contest; and

 2-3           WHEREAS, Nelson Nolden has made a lasting difference in the

 2-4     lives of many young people during his long career as an educator,

 2-5     and by encouraging those individuals to embrace the emotional power

 2-6     of music, he has established an environment of trust between

 2-7     himself and his students, while instilling in them an appreciation

 2-8     for the importance of discipline and cooperation and a lifelong

 2-9     love of music; now, therefore, be it

2-10           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-11     Legislature hereby honor Nelson Nolden for his many years of

2-12     service to the students of Little Cypress-Mauriceville High School

2-13     and extend to him sincere best wishes for continued success and

2-14     happiness in the years to come; and, be it further

2-15           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-16     prepared for Mr. Nolden as an expression of high regard by the

2-17     Texas House of Representatives.
