R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor

 1-2     Pfizer, Inc., for its remarkable contributions in the vital field

 1-3     of health care; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Pfizer is a research-based, global health care

 1-5     company currently employing 46,500 people in 140 countries, and it

 1-6     is a major supplier of medicines for the treatment of

 1-7     cardiovascular disease, infectious diseases, central nervous system

 1-8     disorders, diabetes, allergies, and arthritis; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Recognizing the importance of research in the

1-10     treatment and eradication of disease, Pfizer has invested more than

1-11     $7.5 billion in research and development since 1990 to help find

1-12     the answers to today's most difficult medical challenges; and

1-13           WHEREAS, Considered to be one of the most forward-thinking

1-14     companies in the pharmaceutical field, Pfizer was chosen by Fortune

1-15     magazine as one of America's 10 "Most Admired Companies"; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Pfizer has worked with physicians across the country

1-17     to make medicines available to uninsured patients at no charge;

1-18     additionally, the company has assisted more than half a million

1-19     persons, including 60,000 Texans, through its various charitable

1-20     pharmaceutical access programs; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Pfizer also participates in the "Sharing the Care"

1-22     program, a joint effort with the National Governors Association and

1-23     the National Association of Community Health Centers, to provide

1-24     Pfizer's entire line of single-source products at no cost to

 2-1     community, migrant, and homeless health center patients who lack

 2-2     insurance coverage for pharmaceutical supplies and live below the

 2-3     poverty line; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, The pharmaceutical industry is a critical component

 2-5     of a successful health care system; Pfizer stands at the forefront

 2-6     of its field, and the company's innovative spirit and dedication to

 2-7     its customers make it truly worthy of special legislative

 2-8     recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it

 2-9           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-10     Legislature hereby honor Pfizer, Inc., for its significant

2-11     contributions to the health and well-being of the citizens of Texas

2-12     and people worldwide; and, be it further

2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-14     prepared for Pfizer, Inc., as an expression of high regard by the

2-15     Texas House of Representatives.
