R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Sugar Land's Tara Lipinski recently won the 1997 1-2 World Figure Skating Championship in Lausanne, Switzerland, 1-3 becoming the youngest-ever world champion, and this accomplishment 1-4 is truly deserving of special legislative recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Fresh from her triumph at the 1997 U.S. National 1-6 Championship, Ms. Lipinski dominated a strong field at the 1-7 international event, displaying the poise, determination, and charm 1-8 that have made her figure skating's newest star; in addition to 1-9 walking away with the grand prize, this Philadelphia native also 1-10 grabbed a piece of history that will remain with her for the rest 1-11 of her life; and 1-12 WHEREAS, In the last year, she has vaulted to the pinnacle of 1-13 the figure skating world, and her hard work and dedication to this 1-14 demanding sport have placed her on the brink of superstardom and 1-15 made her a favorite for the 1998 Winter Olympic Games; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Although small in stature, this diminutive diva 1-17 possesses seemingly unlimited zeal and enthusiasm, and her 1-18 contagious exuberance and skillful precision have helped make her a 1-19 fan favorite wherever she performs; and 1-20 WHEREAS, Tara Lipinski has inspired the citizens of America 1-21 and Texas with her incredible abilities and her down-to-earth 1-22 sensibility, and the members of this chamber are proud to honor 1-23 this newest American heroine at this time; now, therefore, be it 1-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-1 Legislature hereby congratulate Tara Lipinski on winning the 1997 2-2 World Figure Skating Championship and extend to her sincere best 2-3 wishes for continued success and happiness in the years to come; 2-4 and, be it further 2-5 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-6 prepared for Ms. Lipinski as an expression of high regard by the 2-7 Texas House of Representatives.
