                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, On March 24, 1997, Luz Elena Day was inducted into

 1-2     the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame, and this singular distinction

 1-3     is truly worthy of special praise and recognition; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Ms. Day has been selected for this honor in tribute

 1-5     to her career as a public servant, and in her capacity as director

 1-6     of public housing for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban

 1-7     Development, she has embodied the highest ideals of civil service;

 1-8     and

 1-9           WHEREAS, Overseeing a jurisdiction of 57 South Texas counties

1-10     and 107 public housing authorities, Ms. Day performs her duties

1-11     with characteristic skill and integrity, and the thousands of

1-12     people whose lives are affected by her work have benefited greatly

1-13     from her astute management of this crucial program; and

1-14           WHEREAS, Her pursuit of excellence in her field has earned

1-15     her the esteem of her professional colleagues, and in 1996 she was

1-16     recognized for her many accomplishments with a special award from

1-17     former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Henry Cisneros;

1-18     and

1-19           WHEREAS, Luz Elena Day's dedication and expertise have

1-20     greatly benefited her fellow Texans, and it is indeed appropriate

1-21     at this time to recognize her for her outstanding career as a

1-22     public servant; now, therefore, be it

1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-24     Legislature hereby congratulate Luz Elena Day on her induction into

 2-1     the San Antonio Women's Hall of Fame and extend to her sincere best

 2-2     wishes for continued success and happiness in the future; and, be

 2-3     it further

 2-4           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-5     prepared for Ms. Day as an expression of high regard by the Texas

 2-6     House of Representatives.
