                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of C. Eldridge Salmon on November 29,

 1-2     1996, at the age of 73, has brought a great loss to the family and

 1-3     many friends of this distinguished Texas businessman and

 1-4     philanthropist; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, He was born in the community of Salmon on September

 1-6     26, 1923, to G. C. and Arbell Garrison Salmon, and though he moved

 1-7     to Houston as a child, he maintained an abiding commitment to the

 1-8     East Texas community throughout his lifetime; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, A University of Houston graduate, Mr. Salmon was

1-10     employed for more than 20 years as an auditor with Texaco Oil

1-11     Company, during which time he earned the respect and admiration of

1-12     his colleagues for his expertise, hard work, and dedication; and

1-13           WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman amassed an extensive

1-14     collection of artwork during his lifetime, and he generously

1-15     donated many of his holdings to institutions in East Texas to

1-16     enable others to enjoy fine art; and

1-17           WHEREAS, He gave 176 pieces to the library at Palestine High

1-18     School, and his altruism benefited Sam Houston State University,

1-19     Grapeland High School, and public libraries in a number of

1-20     communities in the area as well; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Eldridge Salmon left an indelible mark on the East

 2-1     Texas community during his years on this earth, and though he is

 2-2     gone from us now, his memory will long endure in the many

 2-3     contributions he has left behind; now, therefore, be it

 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-5     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of C. Eldridge Salmon

 2-6     and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: Dorothy

 2-7     Ernestine Salmon Baker of Houston, Cleon Salmon of Grapeland, and

 2-8     H. L. Garrison of Palestine; and to the many other friends and

 2-9     relatives of this distinguished gentleman; and, be it further

2-10           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-11     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-12     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-13     C.  Eldridge Salmon.   BEGCAPTION
