WHEREAS, By scoring in the top half of the top one percent of

                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor

 1-2     the National Merit Scholarship finalists of The Colony High School

 1-3     for their noteworthy academic achievements; and

 1-4     WHEREAS, By scoring in the top half of the top one percent of

 1-5     individuals across the country who took the Preparatory Scholastic

 1-6     Aptitude Test in 1996, these students stand at the forefront of

 1-7     academic excellence in the nation; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, This year's National Merit Scholarship finalists

 1-9     include Sandy George, Timothy Gillis, Katherine Hughey, David

1-10     McCall, Christopher Murray, Alykhan Nagji, Shannon Thornton, and

1-11     Whitney Walker; and

1-12           WHEREAS, Their success is directly attributable to the hard

1-13     work and commitment of Principal Bobby Watkins; throughout his

1-14     distinguished tenure, he has emphasized the importance of high

1-15     academic standards, and he has been  amply rewarded for his

1-16     substantial efforts with the outstanding success of his students,

1-17     for this year, The Colony High School has more National Merit

1-18     finalists than any other school in the Lewisville Independent

1-19     School District; and

1-20           WHEREAS, These eight young men and women have demonstrated

1-21     exceptional intelligence, initiative, and maturity in successfully

1-22     pursuing their academic goals, and it is truly a pleasure to honor

1-23     them at this time; now, therefore, be it

1-24           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-1     Legislature hereby honor the National Merit Scholarship finalists

 2-2     and Principal Bobby Watkins of The Colony High School for their

 2-3     outstanding accomplishments and extend to them warmest best wishes

 2-4     for continued success and happiness in all their future endeavors;

 2-5     and, be it further

 2-6           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-7     prepared for these students and Principal Watkins as an expression

 2-8     of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
