R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Coach Bob McKinley will be inducted into the Texas 1-2 Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) Hall of Fame at the 1-3 organization's annual awards banquet in San Antonio on May 6, 1997, 1-4 and this prestigious honor is indeed well deserved; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Currently Weatherford College athletic director and 1-6 head coach of the Lady Coyotes, he began his association with the 1-7 sport of basketball as a player at Bowie High School, where he led 1-8 his team to the state finals in 1959 and averaged 25 points per 1-9 game while earning All-American and All-State honors, and it is for 1-10 his outstanding high school achievements that he is receiving Hall 1-11 of Fame recognition; and 1-12 WHEREAS, He pursued his higher education at Texas Christian 1-13 University, and while attending there he continued his exploits as 1-14 a superb basketball player, serving as a captain for the Horned 1-15 Frogs squad; and 1-16 WHEREAS, After his days as a player ended, his love of the 1-17 game led him to pursue a career as a basketball coach, and he took 1-18 his first coaching position at Pasadena High School; while there, 1-19 he emphasized the qualities of teamwork and dedication that have 1-20 been the hallmark of his efforts as a coach; and 1-21 WHEREAS, He later moved on to Houston Baptist University, 1-22 coaching both baseball and basketball for that school, and in 1977 1-23 became athletic director and men's basketball coach at Weatherford 1-24 College, beginning a productive tenure with that respected 2-1 institution that has lasted two decades; and 2-2 WHEREAS, Turning over the reins of the men's basketball team, 2-3 he became head coach of the Lady Coyotes, and in 1997 he led his 2-4 team to a record of 31 victories against only six defeats, 2-5 conference and regional championships, and a coveted berth in the 2-6 junior college final four and was named conference Coach of the 2-7 Year; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Bob McKinley is one of the most respected college 2-9 basketball coaches in the State of Texas, serving as an 2-10 inspirational figure to all who have known him, and it is indeed 2-11 appropriate that he receive special legislative recognition; now, 2-12 therefore, be it 2-13 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-14 Legislature hereby congratulate Coach Bob McKinley on being named 2-15 to the TABC Hall of Fame and on taking his Lady Coyotes team to the 2-16 NJCAA National Tournament and extend to him sincere best wishes for 2-17 continued success in his endeavors; and, be it further 2-18 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-19 prepared for Coach McKinley as an expression of high regard by the 2-20 Texas House of Representatives.
