R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor
1-2 the Reverend Jerry Dailey on the occasion of his 11th anniversary
1-3 as pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church in San Antonio; and
1-4 WHEREAS, A native of Indiana, he was graduated from both
1-5 Bethune-Cookman College and Eastern Baptist Theological Seminary
1-6 before earning a doctorate from the American International Bible
1-7 Institute in Killeen; and
1-8 WHEREAS, Reverend Dailey began his pastoral career at the
1-9 First African Baptist Church in Sharon Hills, Pennsylvania, in
1-10 1977, and after relocating to Texas in 1982, he was pastor of
1-11 Greater St. James Baptist Church in Fort Worth until 1985; and
1-12 WHEREAS, For the past 11 years, Reverend Dailey has offered
1-13 hope and understanding to his growing congregation at San Antonio's
1-14 Macedonia Baptist Church, where he has initiated Bible study groups
1-15 and has developed a strong Sunday school program in which every
1-16 member of the congregation participates; and
1-17 WHEREAS, This esteemed clergyman has further served his faith
1-18 in leadership capacities with the Baptist Ministers Union, the
1-19 Guadalupe Baptist District Association, the National Baptist
1-20 Convention of America, Inc., and the Southern Baptist Convention;
1-21 and
1-22 WHEREAS, He continues to maintain his longstanding
1-23 involvement in the community through his work with many local
1-24 organizations; a former member of the San Antonio City Zoning
2-1 Commission, he has also offered wise and thoughtful guidance as a
2-2 member of both the San Antonio Police Civilian Advisory Board and
2-3 the Bexar County Opportunities Industrialization Center; and
2-4 WHEREAS, In addition, Reverend Dailey has been active in the
2-5 San Antonio Chapter of the NAACP and Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity,
2-6 and he chaired the San Antonio City Wide Revival from 1988 to 1993;
2-7 and
2-8 WHEREAS, His outstanding work in behalf of others has earned
2-9 him well-deserved acclaim, for Reverend Dailey has been honored
2-10 with several prestigious accolades over the course of the years; in
2-11 addition to receiving the San Antonio Black Achievement Award for
2-12 Excellence in Ministry in 1990 and the first Outstanding
2-13 Congregational Development Award from San Antonio Snap News in
2-14 1992, he was granted an honorary doctorate from Guadalupe College
2-15 in San Antonio in 1991; and
2-16 WHEREAS, A devoted family man, Reverend Dailey is the husband
2-17 of Janice Pullen Dailey and the proud father of three daughters,
2-18 Joy Marie, Jasmine Noelle, and Jeri Nicole, and he takes pleasure
2-19 and satisfaction in their many accomplishments; and
2-20 WHEREAS, In Reverend Dailey, the church has found both a
2-21 preacher and a stalwart friend for the work of the ministry; his
2-22 religious guidance has provided comfort and support to countless
2-23 individuals, and he is indeed worthy of our highest praise and
2-24 recognition as he celebrates 11 years of service to his church;
2-25 now, therefore, be it
2-26 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-27 Legislature hereby honor the Reverend Jerry Dailey and extend to
3-1 him warmest best wishes on the occasion of his 11th anniversary as
3-2 pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church; and, be it further
3-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
3-4 prepared for Reverend Dailey as an expression of high regard by the
3-5 Texas House of Representatives.
