No. 808 75R13317 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 the Texas African American Heritage Organization, Inc., (TAAHO) on 1-3 the notable occasion of its 10th anniversary; and 1-4 WHEREAS, This worthy organization was founded in 1987 to 1-5 unite and promote cultural entities and individuals who preserve 1-6 and present the heritage of African Americans in Texas; and 1-7 WHEREAS, Members of TAAHO are currently devoting their time 1-8 and energy to a number of projects, including establishing a 1-9 repository collection at the Center for American History at The 1-10 University of Texas at Austin; conducting seminars, workshops, 1-11 panel discussions, and symposiums on the history and culture of 1-12 Texas African Americans; documenting and preserving the history of 1-13 African American communities and institutions in Texas; and 1-14 producing and encouraging the production of scholarly papers, 1-15 essays, pamphlets, and books on the life and history of Texas 1-16 African Americans; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Current members of the TAAHO board of directors are 1-18 Johnnie Mae Armstead, Thaddeus A. McDonald, Augustine C. Williams, 1-19 Curtis L. Wilburn, Lamar L. Kirven, Bruce P. Wilson, Gertrude Wade, 1-20 Greg Moses, and Executive Director David A. Williams, and these 1-21 dedicated individuals are united in the desire to help the 1-22 organization fulfill its goals; and 1-23 WHEREAS, For the past decade the members of TAAHO have 1-24 striven to preserve and cherish the unique culture of African 2-1 Americans in Texas, and their exceptional accomplishments in this 2-2 regard are indeed worthy of special legislative recognition at this 2-3 time; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-5 Legislature hereby congratulate the Texas African American Heritage 2-6 Organization, Inc., on the occasion of its 10th anniversary and 2-7 acknowledge the outstanding achievements of its membership over the 2-8 past decade; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for the Texas African American Heritage Organization, 2-11 Inc., as an expression of high regard by the Texas House of 2-12 Representatives.
