R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Forrest Neil Perdue of Knox City on

 1-2     April 12, 1997, at the age of 78, has brought a great loss to the

 1-3     family and many friends of this esteemed gentleman; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mr. Perdue was born October 22,

 1-5     1918, in the community of Gladewater; he completed much of his

 1-6     education in Denton, attending Denton High School and North Texas

 1-7     State University before settling in Knox City in 1938; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, During that same year, he married the lovely Marion

 1-9     R. Clonts, and the two of them enjoyed a long and fulfilling

1-10     marriage that was blessed with two children; a respected farmer and

1-11     rancher, Mr. Perdue also completed 32 years of service with Skelly

1-12     and Getty Oil companies, retiring in 1983; and

1-13           WHEREAS, Widely known as a man of integrity, faith, and good

1-14     humor, Mr. Perdue was a welcome presence in his community; a member

1-15     of First United Methodist Church and the Masonic Lodge, he also

1-16     served as "official chairman" of the Skiles Brothers "Social Club,"

1-17     and his friendship and fellowship will be missed by all who knew

1-18     him; and

1-19           WHEREAS, In all aspects of his life and work, Neil Perdue

1-20     embodied the ideals of industriousness, community service, and

1-21     devotion to family that Texans have long cherished, and it is

1-22     indeed appropriate that the members of this chamber join the Perdue

1-23     family and the people of Knox City in mourning the passing of this

1-24     distinguished Texan; now, therefore, be it

 2-1           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-2     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Forrest Neil Perdue

 2-3     and extend sincere sympathy to the members of his family: to his

 2-4     beloved wife of nearly 60 years, Marion Perdue; to his son and

 2-5     daughter-in-law, David Neil and Judy Perdue; to his daughter and

 2-6     son-in-law, Charlotte and Duane Seay; to his grandchildren, Forrest

 2-7     Perdue, Laurie Chandler, Robin Perdue, Shelly Crustner, Kim

 2-8     Childress, and Kristen Perdue, and their families; to his six

 2-9     great-grandchildren; and to all the relatives and friends of this

2-10     fine man; and, be it further

2-11           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-12     prepared for the members of his family and that when the Texas

2-13     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-14     Forrest Neil Perdue.
