No. 811 75R13541 JHS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to 1-2 congratulate Jeddie Alexander on being named the 1996 Ronald Pearce 1-3 Blind Employee of the Year; and 1-4 WHEREAS, An employee of the Dallas Lighthouse for the Blind, 1-5 Mr. Alexander works in the industrial center as a molding machine 1-6 operator; he is considered a role model by his fellow employees, 1-7 and he consistently exceeds the expectations of his department 1-8 supervisors and is always ready to learn a new skill; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Since 1985, when a gunshot wound left him completely 1-10 blind, Mr. Alexander has dedicated himself to overcoming this 1-11 unfortunate incident rather than dwelling on the preconceived 1-12 limitations that society may place on visually impaired persons; 1-13 his outlook remains upbeat and positive, and he has accepted and 1-14 met this major challenge with remarkable courage and tenacity; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Mr. Alexander has long enjoyed tinkering with 1-16 automobiles, and he maintains his passion for this avocation, 1-17 continuing to repair cars and trucks for friends; he has made plans 1-18 to start his own business and also hopes to someday travel to 1-19 Africa; and 1-20 WHEREAS, An avid churchgoer, this noteworthy gentleman places 1-21 great faith in God and espouses his philosophy of independence and 1-22 self-determination to his two young children; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mr. Alexander's perseverance in the face of this 1-24 adversity and the level of independence he has gained are truly 2-1 extraordinary, and the presentation of this award serves as an 2-2 inspiration to individuals everywhere; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby congratulate Jeddie Alexander on his receipt of 2-5 the 1996 Ronald Pearce Blind Employee of the Year Award and extend 2-6 to him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in 2-7 the years to come; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for Mr. Alexander as an expression of high regard by the 2-10 Texas House of Representatives.
