R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Geraldine Neely is retiring from her post as supreme

 1-2     princess recorder of the Daughters of the Nile, and the members of

 1-3     this chamber wish to congratulate her on her longtime association

 1-4     with this esteemed organization; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Ms. Neely, known as "Jerry" among her family and

 1-6     friends, was elected supreme princess recorder in 1977, becoming

 1-7     just the fourth woman to hold this position since the

 1-8     organization's establishment in 1913; she has been a member of the

 1-9     Daughters of the Nile since 1959, when she became a princess of

1-10     Tabeel Temple No. 88 in Houston; and

1-11           WHEREAS, A nonprofit philanthropic fraternal organization of

1-12     women, Daughters of the Nile was created as a counterpart to the

1-13     Shriners and today boasts more than 58,000 members; these dedicated

1-14     individuals provide assistance to their communities through the 147

1-15     subordinate temples in the United States and Canada; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Daughters of the Nile has raised more than $25

1-17     million to benefit the 22 Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children;

1-18     in addition to this vital monetary aid, members sew special

1-19     garments for young patients, supply toys and games, and donate

1-20     thousands of hours of volunteer service to the hospitals each year;

1-21     and

1-22           WHEREAS, Ms. Neely was named supreme queen in 1975, just

1-23     three years after becoming supreme princess badoura in San

1-24     Francisco; her long career as a member of this fine group has also

 2-1     included an earlier term as queen of Tabeel Temple No. 88 in

 2-2     1964-65; and

 2-3           WHEREAS, This remarkable woman's dedication to the Daughters

 2-4     of the Nile has been an inspiration to all who know her, and her

 2-5     commitment to excellence and outstanding organizational and

 2-6     motivational skills as supreme princess recorder have enabled this

 2-7     commendable organization to maintain its high standards of

 2-8     community service during her 20-year tenure in this prominent and

 2-9     prestigious position; now, therefore, be it

2-10           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-11     Legislature hereby congratulate Geraldine Neely on the occasion of

2-12     her retirement as supreme princess recorder of the Daughters of the

2-13     Nile and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success

2-14     and happiness in the years to come; and, be it further

2-15           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-16     prepared for Ms. Neely as an expression of high regard by the Texas

2-17     House of Representatives.
