R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The East Texas State Fair Senior Citizens Day is 1-2 being held on September 29, 1997, in Tyler, and this gala event is 1-3 a fitting tribute to the contributions of older Texans; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Initiated 28 years ago by Welby C. Edwards, then 1-5 president of the East Texas Fair, and Mrs. W. G. Watson, Senior 1-6 Citizens Day was created to honor all of the area's senior 1-7 citizens; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Del M. Edwards, who has 1-9 supervised the event for the past 18 years, the East Texas State 1-10 Fair Senior Citizens Day has grown in attendance from 900 persons 1-11 to more than 2,000; and 1-12 WHEREAS, The day's festivities include such varied 1-13 entertainment as musical performances, door prizes, and the 1-14 crowning of the event's king and queen; and 1-15 WHEREAS, This unique appreciation of our state's senior 1-16 citizens promises a joyous and enlightening experience for all of 1-17 its attendees, and in light of its many positive contributions, the 1-18 East Texas State Fair Senior Citizens Day is indeed worthy of 1-19 special legislative recognition; now, therefore, be it 1-20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of 1-21 the 75th Texas Legislature hereby recognize the 1997 East Texas 1-22 State Fair Senior Citizens Day as a significant event that provides 1-23 the senior citizens of the Lone Star State with the praise and 1-24 recognition they so richly deserve.
