R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, On April 6, 1997, members of the First Baptist
1-2 Church of Pampa celebrated 90 years of faithful service to the
1-3 spiritual needs of their community, and this remarkable milestone
1-4 is indeed worthy of special praise and recognition; and
1-5 WHEREAS, The church was organized in 1907 by 22 charter
1-6 members, and during the church's earliest years, the congregation
1-7 gathered for services once a month in the old school building it
1-8 shared with the Union Church; and
1-9 WHEREAS, Members realized their goal of having their own
1-10 house of worship when the church constructed its first edifice in
1-11 1915; since that time, the church has relocated and has undergone
1-12 extensive renovations, and its present sanctuary has served the
1-13 congregation well since 1976; and
1-14 WHEREAS, Inspired leadership and an active membership have
1-15 helped the First Baptist Church to flourish through the years; its
1-16 current pastor, Dr. Jim Prock, preaches the gospel to more than
1-17 2,000 members and challenges his church "to finish strong in the
1-18 90s"; and
1-19 WHEREAS, Throughout its proud history, the First Baptist
1-20 Church has provided outstanding spiritual leadership and moral
1-21 guidance to its congregation; the church stands today as a tribute
1-22 to the dedication and hard work of its members, past and present,
1-23 who have devoted their time, energy, and resources to ensure its
1-24 continued existence as a house of God; now, therefore, be it
2-1 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-2 Legislature hereby honor the First Baptist Church on the occasion
2-3 of its 90th anniversary and commend Dr. Jim Prock and the members
2-4 of his congregation for the many significant contributions they
2-5 have made to the betterment of their community; and, be it further
2-6 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-7 prepared for the First Baptist Church as an expression of high
2-8 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
