R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Dr. Damaso A. Oliva, Jr., has established himself as 1-2 a respected member of the San Antonio community, and his 1-3 outstanding service to the residents of this fine city is indeed 1-4 deserving of special legislative recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Born in Havana, Cuba, on September 13, 1961, Dr. 1-6 Oliva is a 1983 cum laude graduate of San Antonio's St. Mary's 1-7 University; he received his medical degree four years later from 1-8 L'Universidad Autonoma de Guadalajara; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Dr. Oliva's extensive postgraduate training includes 1-10 an internship at Nuevo Laredo's San Jose Hospital and social 1-11 service work with that city's District 5 Health Department; in 1-12 August 1996, he completed a four-year psychiatric residency in the 1-13 general adult program of The University of Texas Health Science 1-14 Center at San Antonio; and 1-15 WHEREAS, A member of several volunteer organizations, Dr. 1-16 Oliva serves on the board of directors of Child Abuse Prevention 1-17 Services (CAPS) and has donated his time and support to the Easter 1-18 Seals Society; he is also an active promoter of education in his 1-19 community, serving as a judge at the Southwest Elementary School 1-20 Science Fair in 1995 and 1996 and participating in Career Day at 1-21 Jackson-Keller Elementary School in 1996; and 1-22 WHEREAS, This commendable gentleman is a member of both the 1-23 Bexar County Medical Society and the Texas Medical Association; in 1-24 addition, he enhances his knowledge of his medical specialty as a 2-1 member of the Bexar County Psychiatric Association and the American 2-2 Psychiatric Association; and 2-3 WHEREAS, Dr. Oliva's dedication as a member of the medical 2-4 profession has had a profound effect on countless individuals in 2-5 both Mexico and San Antonio, and his willingness to become involved 2-6 in the betterment of his community is truly inspirational; now, 2-7 therefore, be it 2-8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-9 Legislature hereby commend Dr. Damaso A. Oliva, Jr., on his 2-10 outstanding achievements and extend to him sincere best wishes for 2-11 continued success and happiness in the years to come; and, be it 2-12 further 2-13 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-14 prepared for Dr. Oliva as an expression of high regard by the Texas 2-15 House of Representatives.
