By Cuellar H.R. No. 862 75R14004 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 Claudia Y. Santos of Laredo on being named 1996-1997 Youth of the 1-3 Year by the Laredo Sector Drug Demand Reduction Program of the U.S. 1-4 Border Patrol; and 1-5 WHEREAS, An outstanding student at her high school, where she 1-6 is a member of the National Honor Society, she has demonstrated 1-7 considerable leadership skill as vice president of her sophomore 1-8 class and as a member of the Junior ROTC; in addition, she also 1-9 participated in University Interscholastic League events and the 1-10 Texas Alliance for Minorities in Engineering; and 1-11 WHEREAS, This exceptional young Texan has also devoted her 1-12 time and energy to addressing the problem of illegal drug use, and 1-13 hopes that through education her peers and the generations to come 1-14 will avoid falling prey to the destructive effects of substance 1-15 abuse; and 1-16 WHEREAS, Claudia Y. Santos truly exemplifies the admirable 1-17 qualities of determination and commitment to others, and her 1-18 significant efforts in behalf of her fellow citizens are indeed 1-19 worthy of special legislative recognition in light of her recent 1-20 accolade; now, therefore, be it 1-21 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 1-22 Legislature hereby congratulate Claudia Y. Santos on her receipt of 1-23 the 1996-1997 Youth of the Year Award by the Laredo Sector Drug 1-24 Demand Reduction Program of the U.S. Border Patrol and extend to 2-1 her sincere best wishes for continued happiness and success in the 2-2 future; and, be it further 2-3 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-4 prepared for Ms. Santos as an expression of high regard by the 2-5 Texas House of Representatives.
