                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, On April 22, 1997, Mall Del Norte, the Laredo Police

 1-2     Department, and the Webb County Sheriff's Department, jointly

 1-3     opened the Northside Sub-Station, and this was indeed a significant

 1-4     event for the local citizenry; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, This new 1,500 square foot facility will be open 24

 1-6     hours a day and will be staffed by approximately 20 officers from

 1-7     the police and sheriff's departments; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, Robert James and Meyer Steinberg, who are the owners

 1-9     and developers of Mall Del Norte, played a vital role in the

1-10     construction of the sub-station, providing more than $70,000 in

1-11     construction costs, equipment, and furniture, and their commendable

1-12     contributions enabled the project to become a reality; and

1-13           WHEREAS, The ability of law enforcement officials to respond

1-14     in a timely manner to an emergency situation greatly enhances the

1-15     possibility of a positive outcome; the opening of the Northside

1-16     Sub-Station will provide additional security and peace of mind to

1-17     area residents and the successful completion of this project is

1-18     indeed worthy of recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it

1-19           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-20     Legislature hereby commend Mall Del Norte, the Laredo Police

1-21     Department, the Webb County Sheriff's Department, and the many

1-22     individuals who contributed to the creation of the Northside

1-23     Sub-Station.
