                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The passing of Margaret Houston Tillery on March 26,

 1-2     1997, at the age of 86, has brought a great loss to the family and

 1-3     many friends of this esteemed Carthage resident; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Mrs. Tillery was born March 26,

 1-5     1911; she wed Virgil Tillery, Jr., and the couple treasured the

 1-6     time they shared until his passing in 1992; and

 1-7           WHEREAS, Along with her husband, Mrs. Tillery enjoyed a

 1-8     lengthy career in insurance and bookkeeping, and she further

 1-9     contributed to the community through her involvement in several

1-10     local organizations; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Deeply committed to education issues, she became the

1-12     first woman board member of the Carthage Independent School

1-13     District, and she offered wise and thoughtful guidance on many

1-14     important concerns during more than 10 years of service with that

1-15     group; and

1-16           WHEREAS, Mrs. Tillery was also well known for her support of

1-17     the arts, having participated in the Carthage Music Club, the

1-18     Carthage Village Players, the Q. M. Martin Art Society, and the

1-19     Carthage Book Club; and

1-20           WHEREAS, In all her endeavors, she was sustained by an

1-21     abiding faith as a devout member of the First United Methodist

1-22     Church, where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school for

1-23     more than 50 years; and

1-24           WHEREAS, Margaret Tillery left an indelible mark on the

 2-1     community she was proud to call home, and though her special

 2-2     presence will be deeply missed, her memory will long endure in the

 2-3     hearts and minds of all who knew and loved her; now, therefore, be

 2-4     it    

 2-5           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-6     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Margaret Houston

 2-7     Tillery and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family:

 2-8     to her son and daughter-in-law, Dr. William V. Tillery III and

 2-9     Julie Tillery; to her sister, Martha Bea Faubion; to her

2-10     grandchildren, William Virgil Tillery IV, Robert Carl Tillery, and

2-11     Meredith Tillery; and to her many other friends and relatives; and,

2-12     be it further

2-13           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-14     prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas

2-15     House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

2-16     Margaret Houston Tillery.
