R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The passing of Jean Kubiak Cundieff of Farson, 1-2 Wyoming, on May 3, 1997, at the age of 54, has brought a great loss 1-3 to the family and many friends of this beloved lady; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The daughter of John and Connie Kubiak, 1-5 Mrs. Cundieff was born November 5, 1942, in Reagan, and she was 1-6 awarded a bachelor's degree in education at The University of Texas 1-7 at Austin before earning a doctorate in education from the 1-8 University of California, Los Angeles; and 1-9 WHEREAS, A former librarian, she began her teaching career in 1-10 Sealy; she wed Newton B. Cundieff on June 12, 1970, and the couple 1-11 moved to Alvin, where Mrs. Cundieff taught reading and also wrote a 1-12 weekly newspaper column entitled "Happiness is Reading"; and 1-13 WHEREAS, After living in the Houston area, the Cundieffs 1-14 relocated to Farson, Wyoming, where Mrs. Cundieff taught English, 1-15 speech, and drama before retiring last year, and she was recognized 1-16 for her outstanding service as Teacher of the Year for the Farson 1-17 Eden School District; and 1-18 WHEREAS, An educator in the truest sense of the word, she 1-19 helped and encouraged countless young men and women to strive 1-20 toward achieving their highest potential, and her devotion to her 1-21 profession led her to write the book, Happiness is Reading and 1-22 Teaching English; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Mrs. Cundieff will fondly be remembered for her 1-24 courage and empathy; during the final stages of her battle with 2-1 cancer, she managed both to organize a self-help group for fellow 2-2 patients and to publish a monthly newsletter, and her remarkable 2-3 commitment earned her the heartfelt gratitude of countless 2-4 individuals; and 2-5 WHEREAS, Jean Cundieff touched the lives of many people 2-6 during her lifetime, and though her special presence will be deeply 2-7 missed, her memory will long endure in the hearts and minds of all 2-8 who knew and loved her; now, therefore, be it 2-9 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-10 Legislature hereby pay tribute to the life of Jean Kubiak Cundieff 2-11 and extend sincere sympathy to the members of her family: to her 2-12 husband, Newton B. Cundieff; to her daughter and son-in-law, Kay 2-13 and Kenny Mills; to her son and daughter-in-law, Colby and Charity 2-14 Cundieff; to her grandchildren, John Wesley and Chessa Ann 2-15 Cundieff; to her parents, John and Connie Kubiak; to her brothers 2-16 and sisters-in-law, State Representative Dan Kubiak, Dr. L. B. and 2-17 Jenny Kay Kubiak, Dr. Richard and Linda Kubiak, and Leonard and 2-18 Rosemary Kubiak; to her sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and 2-19 Ricky Stewart; and to her many other friends and relatives; and, be 2-20 it further 2-21 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-22 prepared for the members of her family and that when the Texas 2-23 House of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of 2-24 Jean Kubiak Cundieff.
