R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Willie Charles Briscoe graduates from Texas Southern

 1-2     University's (TSU) Thurgood Marshall School of Law on May 16, 1997,

 1-3     and he will no doubt put his degree to good use; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, A native of Houston, Mr. Briscoe has been blessed

 1-5     with a strong mind and an even stronger desire to achieve; this

 1-6     commendable young man completed Texas Southern's program with an

 1-7     overall ranking of 7 out of 143 graduates; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, Mr. Briscoe is a graduate of Virginia's Hampton

 1-9     University, where he majored in sociology; he completed his

1-10     undergraduate degree in three years and graduated in the top 10

1-11     percent of his class, all while paying his own expenses; and

1-12           WHEREAS, This dynamic individual has augmented his law school

1-13     studies with real-world experience as a law clerk for the Southeast

1-14     Texas Legal Clinic, the Office of General Counsel at TSU, and the

1-15     Philadelphia Defender's Association, and also as a teacher's

1-16     assistant in constitutional law for Professor Larry Weeden; and

1-17           WHEREAS, A recipient of the American Jurisprudence Award in

1-18     Constitutional Law, Mr. Briscoe made the Dean's List for four

1-19     consecutive semesters and was a Law Review candidate, and his

1-20     post-graduation plans include a position as an assistant district

1-21     attorney for the City of Dallas; and

1-22           WHEREAS, Mr. Briscoe has truly demonstrated the benefits of

1-23     hard work and commitment, and his many accomplishments are a source

1-24     of great pride and inspiration to his family and friends; now,

 2-1     therefore, be it

 2-2           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-3     Legislature hereby congratulate Willie Charles Briscoe on the

 2-4     auspicious occasion of his law school commencement and extend to

 2-5     him sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the

 2-6     years to come; and, be it further

 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-8     prepared for Mr. Briscoe as an expression of high regard by the

 2-9     Texas House of Representatives.
