R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, May 26, 1997, marks the opening of Veterans Memorial 1-2 Park in Cisco, and this historic occasion is truly deserving of 1-3 special legislative recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, The park, which sits on a half-acre plot owned by 1-5 Louise and Elvis Nelms, will house dozens of white crosses bearing 1-6 the names of local veterans who died while defending our country, 1-7 and the park's theme, "Where They Will Never Be Forgotten," 1-8 succinctly expresses the feelings of this proud community; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Nelms have dedicated themselves to the 1-10 creation of this memorial and have gained tremendous support from 1-11 their fellow residents; Mr. Nelms, a veteran and a recipient of 1-12 both the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star, has gone beyond the call 1-13 of duty to protect America, and Mrs. Nelms is a former volunteer at 1-14 a veterans hospital in California and a patriot of high order; and 1-15 WHEREAS, Although Veterans Memorial Park is small in size, 1-16 its importance to the members of this fine community is great 1-17 indeed, and by offering this tribute to the many fine men and women 1-18 who have died in the service of our country or remain missing in 1-19 action, the citizens of Cisco and Eastland County have helped to 1-20 ensure that the memory of these brave Americans will live forever; 1-21 now, therefore, be it 1-22 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 1-23 Legislature hereby commemorate the opening of Veterans Memorial 1-24 Park in Cisco and commend Louise and Elvis Nelms for their 2-1 commitment to this admirable project; and, be it further 2-2 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-3 prepared for the veterans of Eastland County as an expression of 2-4 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
