No. 884 75R14563 JTR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, May 6, 1997, marked the 50th anniversary of the 1-2 first broadcast of radio station KWHI in Brenham, and this notable 1-3 occasion is indeed worthy of special praise and recognition; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Founded by Tom S. Whitehead, Sr., KWHI was the first 1-5 station to bring local radio service to Washington County, and 1-6 quickly established itself as a vital and valued addition to the 1-7 area; and 1-8 WHEREAS, Throughout its existence, KWHI has faithfully 1-9 reflected the tastes and values of its listeners, and even as its 1-10 playlist has championed such typically Texan musical forms as 1-11 polkas and country music, the station's news and editorial 1-12 departments have been characterized by the plain-spoken common 1-13 sense that is the hallmark of the region's residents; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Although the radio industry has undergone numerous 1-15 changes during the past half-century, KWHI has remained a steadfast 1-16 and welcome presence on the airwaves, and its remarkable continuity 1-17 of service to the community was underscored when Tom S. Whitehead, 1-18 Jr., son of the station's founder, turned over daily operations to 1-19 his own sons, Tom Dee Whitehead and Mark K. Whitehead, now KWHI's 1-20 manager and chief engineer respectively; and 1-21 WHEREAS, Over the years local radio has served to inform, 1-22 enlighten, and unite people across Texas and the nation, and KWHI 1-23 and its sister station KTTX-FM continue to uphold the proud 1-24 traditions of the industry even as they enter their next 50 years 2-1 of service; now, therefore, be it 2-2 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-3 Legislature hereby commemorate radio station KWHI's 50th 2-4 anniversary and extend to all those connected with the station 2-5 sincere best wishes for every success in the future; and, be it 2-6 further 2-7 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-8 prepared for display at the offices of KWHI as an expression of 2-9 high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
