R E S O L U T I O N
1-1 WHEREAS, For more than eight years, Mayor Pro Tem Max Wells
1-2 has served on the Dallas City Council with great integrity and
1-3 ability, and it is indeed fitting on the occasion of his retirement
1-4 from this body to recognize his many contributions to the
1-5 community; and
1-6 WHEREAS, A council member since 1988, Mr. Wells has been an
1-7 influential presence in Dallas city government, serving as chairman
1-8 of the business and commerce committee, which he was instrumental
1-9 in forming, as well as of the finance and legislative committees;
1-10 and
1-11 WHEREAS, His expertise in municipal government has been
1-12 sought out by his colleagues across the state and throughout the
1-13 country, a fact reflected in his terms as president of the Texas
1-14 Municipal League and as a director of the National League of Cities
1-15 and the Texas Foundation for Local Government; he has also served
1-16 on the Texas Attorney General's Municipal Advisory Committee; and
1-17 WHEREAS, The founder, chairman of the board, and chief
1-18 executive officer of Oaks Bank and Trust Company, Mr. Wells's
1-19 tenure as a council member has been characterized by the same
1-20 financial acumen and keen work ethic that have ensured his success
1-21 as a businessman; and
1-22 WHEREAS, Mr. Wells is a vital and valued citizen of Dallas,
1-23 and has given freely of his time and talents to a number of
1-24 organizations; a past president of the Community Council of Greater
2-1 Dallas, the East Dallas Rotary Club, and the Oak Cliff Jaycees, he
2-2 has also acted as a director of the North Dallas Chamber of
2-3 Commerce, Goodwill Industries of Dallas, and the Dallas Convention
2-4 and Visitors Bureau; and
2-5 WHEREAS, Throughout his successful career, Mr. Wells has
2-6 depended on the support and inspiration of his family, and he and
2-7 his wife Margaret take great pride and joy in their son Mark Wells
2-8 and his wife Becky Wells; their son Chris Wells and his fiancee
2-9 Jalyn Parsley; and their grandchildren, Sarah, Lane, Walker, and
2-10 Annie Wells; and
2-11 WHEREAS, Max Wells has distinguished himself as a committed
2-12 public servant, an astute businessman, and a devoted family man,
2-13 and his many accomplishments are truly worthy of special praise and
2-14 recognition; now, therefore, be it
2-15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas
2-16 Legislature hereby honor Max Wells on the occasion of his
2-17 retirement as mayor pro tem of Dallas and extend to him sincere
2-18 best wishes for continued success and happiness in the future; and,
2-19 be it further
2-20 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be
2-21 prepared for Mr. Wells as an expression of high regard by the Texas
2-22 House of Representatives.
