                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Henderson County Peace Officers Association will

 1-2     be observing Peace Officers Memorial Week on May 11-17, 1997, to

 1-3     remember those brave members of the law enforcement community who

 1-4     lost their lives in the line of duty; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, This year tribute will be paid to officers Kobler C.

 1-6     Winn, Larry Hobson, Bennie R.  Everett, and Charlie Fields, Sr.,

 1-7     all of whom sacrificed their lives while upholding their sworn duty

 1-8     to protect their fellow citizens; and

 1-9           WHEREAS, To honor these noble individuals, May 15, 1997, has

1-10     been designated Peace Officers Memorial Day, during which time

1-11     members of the association and the officers' loved ones will gather

1-12     at the Courthouse Square in Athens for a ceremony that will include

1-13     a prayer and the placement of a wreath at the memorial site; and

1-14           WHEREAS, Officers Winn, Hobson, Everett, and Fields truly

1-15     exemplified the spirit of self-sacrifice that is at the core of

1-16     every peace officer's pledge to provide for the safety of every

1-17     person in their community; although their lives have been

1-18     tragically cut short, their memories will long endure in the hearts

1-19     of the many people who were privileged to know them during their

1-20     time on this earth; now, therefore, be it

1-21           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-22     Legislature hereby pay tribute to the lives of officers Kobler C.

1-23     Winn, Larry Hobson, Bennie R. Everett, and Charlie Fields, Sr., and

1-24     extend sincere sympathy to their families, their friends, and their

 2-1     fellow officers; and, be it further

 2-2           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-3     prepared for the officers' families and that when the Texas House

 2-4     of Representatives adjourns this day, it do so in memory of

 2-5     officers Kobler C. Winn, Larry Hobson, Bennie R. Everett, and

 2-6     Charlie Fields, Sr.
