R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor 1-2 the 11 sixth grade students from Jamison Middle School in Pearland 1-3 who placed first in the state and third in the nation at the 16th 1-4 Elementary Knowledge Master Open academic competition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Completed January 22, 1997, the Elementary Knowledge 1-6 Master Open hosted thousands of students from all 50 states and 1-7 several countries who competed in 13 curriculum areas; and 1-8 WHEREAS, The participating scholars from Jamison were Sandy 1-9 Arriaga, Alane Ballweg, Antonia Cagan, Robbie Helms, Neal Miller, 1-10 Tara Nelson, Kristen Simpson, Kurt Schoeffler, Erika Shelver, 1-11 Caylee Theiler, and Sean Tholstrup, each of whom made significant 1-12 contributions to the team's overall success; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Team coach and sponsor Barbara Ellis devoted her 1-14 time and energy to preparing her charges for the challenging 1-15 competition, and her efforts were a vital factor in the team's 1-16 achievements; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Students from Jamison Middle School who participate 1-18 in the Elementary Knowledge Master Open carry on a proud tradition 1-19 for their alma mater, which in seven years of competition has been 1-20 the highest rated team from Texas on three occasions and placed 1-21 second highest in the nation in 1995; and 1-22 WHEREAS, The talent, determination, and intelligence 1-23 exhibited by these outstanding young Texans in their pursuit of 1-24 excellence has set high standards to which all students can aspire, 2-1 and their exceptional achievements are indeed worthy of special 2-2 legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-3 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-4 Legislature hereby congratulate the students at Jamison Middle 2-5 School on their superb performance at the 16th Elementary Knowledge 2-6 Master Open and extend to them sincere best wishes for continued 2-7 success and happiness in the future; and, be it further 2-8 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-9 prepared for prominent display at Jamison Middle School as an 2-10 expression of high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
