R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Al Ogletree is retiring from his position as head

 1-2     baseball coach at the University of Texas-Pan American, bringing to

 1-3     a close a superb career that has spanned more than four decades;

 1-4     and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Coach Ogletree earned his graduate degree from Texas

 1-6     A&M University and took his first coaching position at the

 1-7     University of Dallas; after only seven years he moved on to Sul

 1-8     Ross State University, where he coached for three seasons before

 1-9     beginning his long and productive association with the University

1-10     of Texas-Pan American baseball program; and

1-11           WHEREAS, During his 29 years at the University of Texas-Pan

1-12     American, Coach Ogletree built the school's program into one of the

1-13     most respected in the state, and his 1971 team earned a coveted

1-14     trip to the College World Series by shutting-out the Texas

1-15     Longhorns 4-0; and

1-16           WHEREAS, On April 27, 1997, he coached his final home game at

1-17     Jody Ramsey Stadium, and his Bronc team gave their coach a 14-4 win

1-18     over Southwestern Louisiana, bringing his career victory total to

1-19     1,216; and

1-20           WHEREAS, For 41 years, Coach Al Ogletree has tirelessly

1-21     devoted his time and energy to help young baseball players reach

1-22     their full potential and, as he begins his well-deserved

1-23     retirement, he can indeed look back with tremendous pride and

1-24     satisfaction on his exemplary career as a coach; now, therefore, be

 2-1     it

 2-2           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-3     Legislature hereby congratulate Coach Al Ogletree on his remarkable

 2-4     tenure with the University of Texas-Pan American and extend to him

 2-5     sincere best wishes for a happy and rewarding retirement; and, be

 2-6     it further

 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-8     prepared for Coach Ogletree as an expression of high regard by the

 2-9     Texas House of Representatives.
