R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Lone Star State is widely recognized throughout 1-2 the world for the remarkable variety and beauty of its flora and 1-3 fauna, and among the most noteworthy of these natural assets are 1-4 the spectacular wildflowers that yearly blanket the state; and 1-5 WHEREAS, Alone among the cities of the world, Dimmit County's 1-6 Carrizo Springs can lay claim to a highly unusual floral species, 1-7 the Dimmit Sunflower, which is found only in the area immediately 1-8 surrounding this Southwest Texas town; and 1-9 WHEREAS, Characterized by its familiar cheerful yellow petals 1-10 and large brown center disk, the Dimmit Sunflower thrives in the 1-11 region's sunny, dry climate and is an appropriate symbol of the 1-12 hardy vitality and indomitable good nature of local residents; and 1-13 WHEREAS, Carrizo Springs and Dimmit County have long been 1-14 known for their friendly and industrious citizenry, agricultural 1-15 and mineral riches, and diverse recreational attractions, and it is 1-16 indeed fitting at this time to acknowledge yet another of the 1-17 area's unique distinctions; now, therefore, be it 1-18 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 1-19 Legislature hereby recognize Carrizo Springs in Dimmit County as 1-20 the Home of the Dimmit Sunflower.
