No. 914 75R14771 JTR-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, The Fort Worth Commission on the Status of Women has 1-2 named Dr. Jennifer Giddings Brooks as one of the 1997 Outstanding 1-3 Women of Fort Worth, and this noteworthy distinction is truly 1-4 deserving of special praise and recognition; and 1-5 WHEREAS, The principal of Edward J. Briscoe Elementary 1-6 School, Dr. Brooks has fully committed herself to ensuring that her 1-7 young charges receive the finest education possible, and in doing 1-8 so she has invested in her work the personal involvement so 1-9 essential to the learning process; and 1-10 WHEREAS, Dr. Brooks received baccalaureate and master's 1-11 degrees from Texas Christian University before going on to earn her 1-12 doctorate in education from Texas Woman's University, and before 1-13 assuming her current duties she held a number of positions in the 1-14 Fort Worth Independent School District, including those of speech 1-15 and language pathologist, program evaluator, elementary magnet 1-16 coordinator, and assistant principal; and 1-17 WHEREAS, A vital and valued member of the community, Dr. 1-18 Brooks has lent her time and talent to a number of worthy 1-19 endeavors; a director of the Daycare Association of Tarrant County, 1-20 Child Advocates of Tarrant County, and the Opera Association, she 1-21 also cochairs the Volunteer Leadership Committee of the Tarrant 1-22 County United Negro College Fund Campaign, the Y.W.C.A. Diversity 1-23 Task Force, and the Academy Review Board for the 24th Congressional 1-24 District, as well as serving in the Fort Worth delegation to the 2-1 President's Summit on America's Future; and 2-2 WHEREAS, The high esteem in which Dr. Brooks is held is 2-3 evident from the many honors she has been accorded, including Phi 2-4 Delta Kappa sorority's Eminent Woman Award and the United Negro 2-5 College Fund's Distinguished Leadership Award; she is a former 2-6 president of the Tarrant/Fort Worth Y.W.C.A. and was honored by the 2-7 association for her outstanding service; and 2-8 WHEREAS, Throughout her career, Dr. Brooks has relied on the 2-9 strength and support of her close-knit family, and she and her 2-10 husband, Roy C. Brooks, take great pride in their children, Royce 2-11 and Marion; and 2-12 WHEREAS, Jennifer Giddings Brooks has distinguished herself 2-13 as a gifted educator, a public-spirited citizen, and a devoted wife 2-14 and mother, and it is indeed fitting to recognize her many 2-15 accomplishments at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-17 Legislature hereby congratulate Dr. Jennifer Giddings Brooks on 2-18 being named one of 1997's Outstanding Women of Fort Worth and 2-19 extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success and 2-20 happiness in the years to come; and, be it further 2-21 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-22 prepared for Dr. Brooks as an expression of high regard by the 2-23 Texas House of Representatives.
