R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor

 1-2     Shannon Fletcher for her many achievements and congratulate her on

 1-3     her graduation from the Math and Science for Minority Students

 1-4     program at Phillips Academy in Andover, Massachusetts; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, The program offers students an opportunity to

 1-6     immerse themselves in the study of mathematics and science for

 1-7     three consecutive summers to better prepare for careers in

 1-8     engineering, science, medicine, computer technology, and other

 1-9     related fields; and

1-10           WHEREAS, Ms. Fletcher is ranked sixth in her senior class of

1-11     275 students at Western Hills High School, where she is president

1-12     of the school's honor society, and she is also a Tandy Scholar; and

1-13           WHEREAS, Highly regarded for her leadership abilities, she

1-14     attended the Hugh O'Brien Leadership Conference as a sophomore and

1-15     was feted with the Riley Sophomore of the Year Award; today, this

1-16     remarkable young woman effectively serves her peers on the school's

1-17     student council; and

1-18           WHEREAS, Named an Outstanding Senior, Ms. Fletcher is a

1-19     finalist for the Fort Worth Jaycee Youth Leadership Award, and she

1-20     is listed in Who's Who Among American High School Students; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Upon high school graduation, she plans to study

1-22     pharmacology, and her academic excellence thus far has helped to

1-23     lay the groundwork for continued achievement in the future; and

1-24           WHEREAS, Shannon Fletcher has demonstrated exceptional

 2-1     intelligence, initiative, and maturity in successfully pursuing her

 2-2     academic and career interests, and she is indeed deserving of

 2-3     special legislative recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it

 2-4           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-5     Legislature hereby commend Shannon Fletcher for her many

 2-6     accomplishments and congratulate her on her graduation from the

 2-7     Phillips Academy Math and Science for Minority Students program;

 2-8     and, be it further

 2-9           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-10     prepared for Ms. Fletcher as an expression of high regard by the

2-11     Texas House of Representatives.
