                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Fort Worth Commission on the Status of Women has

 1-2     named Opal Roland Lee one of 1997's Outstanding Women of Fort

 1-3     Worth, and this noteworthy distinction is truly worthy of special

 1-4     praise and recognition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Ms. Lee received her bachelor's

 1-6     degree from Wiley College before beginning her career as an

 1-7     educator at Amanda McCoy Elementary School, where she quickly

 1-8     established herself as a singularly gifted teacher; after earning a

 1-9     master's degree from North Texas State University, she became a

1-10     home school counselor, working for the Fort Worth ISD in that

1-11     position until she retired; and

1-12           WHEREAS, Since her retirement, Ms. Lee has brought the same

1-13     energy and enthusiasm that characterized her teaching to her

1-14     efforts in behalf of the community; a steadfast advocate of

1-15     affordable housing, she has given freely of her time to Habitat for

1-16     Humanity and to Citizens Concerned With Human Dignity, of which she

1-17     is a founding member; and

1-18           WHEREAS, Her further contributions to the greater good

1-19     include her work with the Loaves and Fishes Soup Kitchen, and she

1-20     is also a founding member of the Evans Avenue Business Association

1-21     and the Tarrant County Black Historical and Genealogical Society;

1-22     and

1-23           WHEREAS, Through the years, Opal Roland Lee's compassion and

1-24     generosity of spirit have greatly benefited all those whose lives

 2-1     she has touched, and it is indeed fitting at this time to honor her

 2-2     for her lifetime of service; now, therefore, be it

 2-3           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-4     Legislature hereby congratulate Opal Roland Lee on being named one

 2-5     of 1997's Outstanding Women of Fort Worth and extend to her sincere

 2-6     best wishes for continued success and happiness; and, be it further

 2-7           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-8     prepared for Ms. Lee as an expression of high regard by the Texas

 2-9     House of Representatives.
