No. 919 75R14792 JHS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Fort Worth's Karina Hernandez has completed the Math 1-2 and Science for Minority Students (MS)2 program at Phillips Academy 1-3 in Andover, Massachusetts, and the members of this chamber are 1-4 proud to honor this noteworthy achievement; and 1-5 WHEREAS, A senior at Polytechnic High School, Ms. Hernandez 1-6 has distinguished herself as a talented and dedicated scholar among 1-7 her fellow students; she is president of her school's chapter of 1-8 the National Honor Society and is a member of the Future Business 1-9 Leaders of America, the Spanish Club, and El Ballet Folklorico 1-10 Juvenile; and 1-11 WHEREAS, In addition, Ms. Hernandez is a Tandy Scholar and a 1-12 Hugh O'Brien Youth Foundation Ambassador, and she has been selected 1-13 in the past to attend the National Hispanic Institute's Young 1-14 Leaders Conference; she is currently serving an internship with 1-15 Dean Witter Reynolds, Inc., and is looking forward to a career in 1-16 international finance; and 1-17 WHEREAS, Phillips Academy offers minority students from the 1-18 United States an opportunity to fine-tune their math and science 1-19 skills in a program that takes place over the course of three 1-20 consecutive summers; the prestigious program encourages selected 1-21 students to apply the knowledge that they acquire through the 1-22 program to a variety of math and science related fields; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Karina Hernandez has demonstrated a desire to excel 1-24 in the academic environment as well as a willingness to apply the 2-1 skills she has learned as a member of the (MS)2 program to 2-2 real-world situations, and her commitment to excellence in this 2-3 regard is truly exemplary; now, therefore, be it 2-4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-5 Legislature hereby congratulate Karina Hernandez on her completion 2-6 of Phillips Academy's Math and Science for Minority Students (MS)2 2-7 program and extend to her sincere best wishes for continued success 2-8 and happiness in the years to come; and, be it further 2-9 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-10 prepared for Ms. Hernandez as an expression of high regard by the 2-11 Texas House of Representatives.
