R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Charles C. Andrews, Jr., was recently designated the 1-2 recipient of an Outstanding Texan Award by the Texas Legislative 1-3 Black Caucus, and this honor is indeed well deserved; and 1-4 WHEREAS, Mr. Andrews was graduated from Lowell High School in 1-5 San Francisco, California, and pursued his higher education at 1-6 Lincoln University in Pennsylvania; he continued his quest for 1-7 academic excellence as a graduate student at Incarnate Word College 1-8 in San Antonio and also undertook graduate course work at Harvard 1-9 Business School; and 1-10 WHEREAS, In 1963 Mr. Andrews became an archivist for Bexar 1-11 County and the next year took a lab technician position with the 1-12 School of Aerospace Medicine at Brooks Air Force Base, where he 1-13 enjoyed considerable success, earning promotion to the position of 1-14 physiological training officer; and 1-15 WHEREAS, He later was a highly respected consultant and from 1-16 1979 to 1989 served as president and chief executive officer of 1-17 Andrews Bros., Lines, an ocean transportation company; and 1-18 WHEREAS, Mr. Andrews currently wears many hats as president 1-19 and general manager of radio station KSJL-FM, host of "The Chuck 1-20 Andrews Show," secretary and board member of AFRICOM, and president 1-21 of Entermercial, Inc., a production company that creates 1-22 entertainment-based commercials; and 1-23 WHEREAS, Possessed of superb leadership skills, he has aptly 1-24 demonstrated the qualities of vision and determination as chairman 2-1 of the San Antonio Housing Authority and president of its 2-2 foundation and as a member of the board of directors of Project 2-3 F.R.E.E., the Institute of Texan Cultures Development Board, the 2-4 Alamo Public Telecommunications Council, the San Pedro Playhouse, 2-5 the Inner City Broadcasting Corporation, Partnership for Hope, and 2-6 others too numerous to mention; and 2-7 WHEREAS, This fine gentleman has also been affiliated with 2-8 such worthy organizations as the NAACP, United Negro College Fund, 2-9 San Antonio Air Force Community Council, San Antonio Business 2-10 League, Alamo Plaza Association, and the Greater San Antonio Crime 2-11 Prevention Commission; and 2-12 WHEREAS, In recognition of his many contributions, 2-13 Mr. Andrews was chosen the 1993 Man of the Year by the Elks and 2-14 that same year was named Links-Western Regional Man of the Year; in 2-15 addition, he was given the title of doctor of law by The University 2-16 of Texas at San Antonio; and 2-17 WHEREAS, He has been supported in all his endeavors by his 2-18 devoted wife, Thelma, and his two sons, Michael and Charles III; 2-19 and 2-20 WHEREAS, Charles C. Andrews, Jr., is an inspiration to all 2-21 who know him, and his remarkable accomplishments as an entrepreneur 2-22 and community leader make him indeed worthy of special legislative 2-23 recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it 2-24 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-25 Legislature hereby congratulate Charles C. Andrews, Jr., on being 2-26 named the recipient of an Outstanding Texan Award by the Texas 2-27 Legislative Black Caucus; and, be it further 3-1 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 3-2 prepared for Mr. Andrews as an expression of high regard by the 3-3 Texas House of Representatives.
