R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, On May 3, 1997, Superintendent Clem W. Steward and

 1-2     his wife, Carrie N. Steward, were honored for their many years of

 1-3     outstanding service and for Superintendent Steward's appointment as

 1-4     third administrative assistant of the Texas Southwest Jurisdiction

 1-5     of the Churches of God in Christ; and

 1-6           WHEREAS, A native Texan, Superintendent Steward was born to

 1-7     Clemon Steward and Bessie Steward, who was a district missionary in

 1-8     her church; he followed in his mother's footsteps to serve the Lord

 1-9     and began his ministry at the age of 16; and

1-10           WHEREAS, During his earliest years in the church,

1-11     Superintendent Steward offered special comfort and religious

1-12     guidance to countless individuals at pastorates with Light House

1-13     Church of God in Christ, Faith Temple Church of God in Christ, and

1-14     the Greater Evangelist Temple Church of God in Christ; and

1-15           WHEREAS, This respected clergyman has greatly contributed to

1-16     his denomination in leadership capacities as superintendent of the

1-17     church's Coastal and Alamo districts and  as an esteemed member of

1-18     the executive committee of the Texas Southwest Jurisdiction; since

1-19     becoming administrative assistant of the jurisdiction last year, he

1-20     has continued this proud tradition of religious service; and

1-21           WHEREAS, Superintendent Steward's wife Carrie has been active

1-22     in her faith and community for many years as a church worker, as a

1-23     pastor's wife, and as a Sunday school teacher, and her devotion to

1-24     the Lord has been a source of inspiration to all who know her; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, In all their endeavors, the Stewards have enjoyed

 2-2     the love and support of their six children and nine grandchildren,

 2-3     each of whom are a source of pride and joy to the couple; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, Through the years, Superintendent and Mrs. Steward

 2-5     have dedicated themselves to serving both the Lord and their

 2-6     fellowman, and they are indeed deserving of special commendation at

 2-7     this time; now, therefore, be it

 2-8           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-9     Legislature hereby honor Superintendent Clem W. Steward and Carrie

2-10     N. Steward and extend to the Stewards sincere best wishes for

2-11     continued fulfillment in the years to come; and, be it further

2-12           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-13     prepared for Superintendent and Mrs. Steward as an expression of

2-14     high regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
