By Gallego H.R. No. 954 75R13968 BNL-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, Barbara B. Dorris, clerk of the Eighth District 1-2 Court of Appeals in El Paso, is retiring after 15 years of personal 1-3 and professional service to the citizens of our great state, and 1-4 her accomplishments are indeed worthy of special legislative 1-5 recognition; and 1-6 WHEREAS, Mrs. Dorris began her career with the state in 1982 1-7 as an appellate secretary and for the last seven years has served 1-8 as the appointed Clerk of Court; in the course of this tenure, she 1-9 has earned the deep respect and admiration of the citizens of the 1-10 22 counties that comprise the appellate district, and her 1-11 professional accomplishments are reflected in the prestigious 1-12 national reputation enjoyed by the Eighth District Court of Appeals 1-13 as a leader and standard bearer of appellate court technology; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Her contributions to the court's development and 1-15 implementation of many leading edge innovations include the 1-16 introduction of the Internet to the Texas appellate courts, the 1-17 establishment of the first World Wide Web page featuring a Texas 1-18 appellate court, the establishment of the state's first complete 1-19 appellate videoconferencing system for presentation of oral 1-20 arguments from remote sites, and the establishment of a 1-21 state-of-the-art internal closed-circuit security monitoring 1-22 system; and 1-23 WHEREAS, This distinguished woman's commitment to her office, 1-24 to the appellate jurists whom she serves, and to her fellow staff 2-1 members is surpassed only by her devotion to her family; she and 2-2 John, her husband of almost 40 years, take great pride in their two 2-3 children, Shari Jean Flynn of Lubbock and Tracy Lynn Dorris Smith 2-4 of Carrolton, and in recent years their family has grown to include 2-5 three cherished grandchildren, Corey Flynn, Kyle Flynn, and 2-6 Kimberly Smith; and 2-7 WHEREAS, Barbara Dorris has displayed great dedication and 2-8 integrity in her position as Clerk of the Eighth District Court of 2-9 Appeals, and in doing so she has upheld the high traditions enjoyed 2-10 by members of the administrative arm of the Judicial Department of 2-11 the State of Texas; the honor, dignity, and grace that she has 2-12 brought to her office are a continual inspiration to all who know 2-13 her, and Texans have been fortunate to have this commendable woman 2-14 working in their behalf; now, therefore, be it 2-15 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-16 Legislature hereby express gratitude and appreciation to Barbara B. 2-17 Dorris for her many years of dedicated service to the Judicial 2-18 Department of the State of Texas and extend to her warmest best 2-19 wishes for continued success and happiness in the years to come; 2-20 and, be it further 2-21 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-22 prepared for Mrs. Dorris as an expression of high regard by the 2-23 Texas House of Representatives.
