No. 971 75R14779 WMS-D R E S O L U T I O N 1-1 WHEREAS, On May 17, 1997, the Volunteer Services Council for 1-2 the Rio Grande State Center holds its annual awards and recognition 1-3 banquet to honor volunteers for their vital services; and 1-4 WHEREAS, This year's honorees include the Reverend Charles 1-5 Palmer and Rachael Palmer, who will be recognized as Volunteers of 1-6 the Year and will receive the Individual Menton Murray Associates 1-7 award, as well as their 1,000-hour pins, and The Meadows Foundation 1-8 of Dallas, which will be recognized with the Organizational Menton 1-9 Murray Associates award; and 1-10 WHEREAS, The banquet will also recognize more than 30 other 1-11 volunteers who have immeasurably enhanced the programs of the 1-12 center, and Wayne Potter leads the list of these honorees for his 1-13 contribution of more than 10,000 hours; and 1-14 WHEREAS, Other volunteers who reached service milestones are 1-15 Mildred "Butch" Martin, 5,500 hours; Council President Dora 1-16 Castillo, 4,500 hours; Arturo Romero, 3,500 hours; Les Miller and 1-17 Marcelina Sosa, 3,000 hours; Josephina Gonzalez and Gregoria 1-18 Garcia, 2,500 hours; Pattie Segal, Epifania Palos, and Julia 1-19 Carrizales, 2,000 hours; Maria Garcia, Frances Silguero, and Manuel 1-20 Garza, 1,500 hours; Shirley Snodgrass, Vicente Arismedi, and Daniel 1-21 Barnes, 1,000 hours; County Commissioner James Matz, Warren 1-22 Kininmonth, James Olsen, Fidencio Trevino, Juan Cabrera, and Gloria 1-23 Casas, 500 hours; and Yvette Benitez, Steven Benitez, Rick 1-24 Eliserio, Alma Morales, Terry Ortiz, Johnny Chavez, Carlos Garcia, 2-1 Ken Jenkins, Richard Burst, and Kattie Soria, 100 hours; and 2-2 WHEREAS, The success of the center is also dependent on the 2-3 hard work and efforts of its employees, and Guadalupe Gorena, 2-4 Roberto Caballero, Frances Marroquin, Connie Franco, and Mary 2-5 Rodriguez will receive distinguished performance awards; and 2-6 WHEREAS, The spirit of volunteerism is one of the most 2-7 ennobling human traits, and by giving freely of their time and 2-8 talent, these inspirational individuals have performed a service 2-9 that is truly worthy of special legislative recognition at this 2-10 time; now, therefore, be it 2-11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas 2-12 Legislature hereby commend the dedicated volunteers and employees 2-13 of the Rio Grande State Center; and, be it further 2-14 RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be 2-15 prepared for these outstanding Texans as an expression of high 2-16 regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
