                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, Three students from Sadler's S&S Consolidated High

 1-2     School have captured the state championship in the current events

 1-3     division of the 1997 University Interscholastic League (UIL)

 1-4     competition; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Sophomores Brandon Blankenship, Shawn Kirby, and

 1-6     Scott Fuhrman took home the top three spots in this demanding event

 1-7     and also set a state team record with 108 points; their dominating

 1-8     win was the school's fourth consecutive victory in this

 1-9     competition, and this year's talented trio is looking forward to

1-10     defending its well-deserved title in 1998; and

1-11           WHEREAS, Competing against teams from 20 schools across the

1-12     state, the S&S team demonstrated a detailed knowledge of the events

1-13     that affect our daily lives, excelling in both the written and

1-14     verbal portions of the competition; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Hours of daily study and research are necessary to

1-16     perform at this advanced level, and the dedication and commitment

1-17     to excellence exhibited by these talented teens is impressive; and

1-18           WHEREAS, The team's academic coach, Chris Smith, has

1-19     encouraged and honed their keen interest in local, national, and

1-20     global events, and as they prepare for next year, these dynamic

1-21     teammates can take great pride in knowing that the next record that

1-22     they break will be their own; now, therefore, be it

1-23           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-24     Legislature hereby congratulate team members Brandon Blankenship,

 2-1     Shawn Kirby, and Scott Fuhrman, and their coach, Chris Smith, on

 2-2     winning this year's UIL current events championship and extend to

 2-3     them sincere best wishes for continued success and happiness in the

 2-4     years to come; and, be it further

 2-5           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

 2-6     prepared for the team and its coach as an expression of high regard

 2-7     by the Texas House of Representatives.
