                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Reverend Raymond Scott of Port Arthur has

 1-2     faithfully served the needs of his community for many years, and

 1-3     his genuine regard for the welfare of others has enriched the lives

 1-4     of countless people; and

 1-5           WHEREAS, Reverend Scott was ordained at Port Arthur's Shiloh

 1-6     Baptist Church, where he has been a deacon for more than 20 years

 1-7     and is an associate minister, and he also offers comfort and

 1-8     guidance to others as an associate minister with the community's

 1-9     New Hope Baptist Church; and

1-10           WHEREAS, This esteemed gentleman has further served his faith

1-11     and community as a former member of the Baptist Minister Conference

1-12     of Beaumont and Vicinity and as a current member of both the

1-13     Ministers Union of Beaumont and Vicinity and the Port Arthur

1-14     Ministers Conference; and

1-15           WHEREAS, Reverend Scott is an independent insurance salesman,

1-16     and he maintains his involvement in the community through his

1-17     participation in numerous organizations; he has been active in the

1-18     N.A.A.C.P. for many years, and in addition to being president of

1-19     the association's local chapter, he is cochairman of religious

1-20     activities at the state level and a board member at the national

1-21     level; and

1-22           WHEREAS, A former member of the Port Arthur Transit

1-23     Authority, he has demonstrated an abiding commitment to workers'

1-24     issues in leadership posts with several labor organizations, and he

 2-1     effectively articulated workers' concerns as a spokesman with the

 2-2     Sabine Area Central Labor Negotiations Committee for Laborers for

 2-3     15 years; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, Reverend Scott's noteworthy accomplishments have

 2-5     brought well-deserved acclaim, for he was appointed to the State

 2-6     Manpower Planning Committee by former Governor Preston Smith, and

 2-7     he was also named to the Texas Department of Correction's Furlough

 2-8     Advisory Board; and

 2-9           WHEREAS, Reverend Scott has contributed to his faith and

2-10     community in myriad ways, and he is indeed worthy of special praise

2-11     and recognition at this time; now, therefore, be it

2-12           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

2-13     Legislature hereby commend the Reverend Raymond Scott for his

2-14     outstanding service to the people of Port Arthur and extend to him

2-15     warmest best wishes for continued fulfillment; and, be it further

2-16           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-17     prepared for Reverend Scott as an expression of high regard by the

2-18     Texas House of Representatives.
