                                 R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, The Texas House of Representatives is proud to honor

 1-2     Dr. Nancy Upton for the many significant contributions she has made

 1-3     as an educator; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Dr. Upton completed her college education at Baylor

 1-5     University, where she currently holds the Ben Williams Chair in

 1-6     Entrepreneurship, was the founder and first director of the

 1-7     Institute for Family Business for 10 years, and was director of the

 1-8     John F. Baugh Center for Entrepreneurship for four years; under her

 1-9     leadership, the center was recognized by Success Magazine as one of

1-10     the top 25 programs in the country and one of the top five by U.S.

1-11     News and World Report; and

1-12           WHEREAS, A Scholar-in-Residence for the Center for

1-13     Entrepreneurial Leadership, Inc., at the Kauffman Foundation, she

1-14     is coauthor of Entrepreneurship:  Creativity and Growth; and

1-15           WHEREAS, This esteemed educator has further contributed to

1-16     her chosen field through her involvement with several

1-17     organizations, and she also serves on a number of family business

1-18     boards; and

1-19           WHEREAS, Throughout the years, Dr. Upton has received

1-20     numerous honors for her accomplishments; she was recognized as

1-21     Entrepreneurship Educator of the Year by the United States

1-22     Association of Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and she was

1-23     also named a top 10 finalist for Entrepreneurship Educator of the

1-24     Year by the Kauffman Foundation; and

 2-1           WHEREAS, Before joining Baylor's faculty in 1983, Dr.  Upton

 2-2     spent a decade in business, including eight years in the tourism

 2-3     industry in Hawaii, Spain, Portugal, and England; and

 2-4           WHEREAS, Nancy Upton has enhanced the quality of higher

 2-5     education in the Lone Star State in countless ways, and she is

 2-6     indeed worthy of special praise and recognition at this time; now,

 2-7     therefore, be it

 2-8           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

 2-9     Legislature hereby honor Dr. Nancy Upton for her many achievements

2-10     as an educator and extend to her warmest congratulations for

2-11     continued success and happiness in the future; and, be it further

2-12           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

2-13     prepared for Dr. Upton as an expression of high regard by the Texas

2-14     House of Representatives.
