R E S O L U T I O N

 1-1           WHEREAS, On May 3, 1997, Sullivan City was incorporated by a

 1-2     vote of its residents, and this historic event is truly worthy of

 1-3     special recognition; and

 1-4           WHEREAS, Located in western Hidalgo County, Sullivan City

 1-5     lies at the heart of the Lower Rio Grande Valley, and the

 1-6     community's recent growth reflects the region's great vitality and

 1-7     dynamism; and

 1-8           WHEREAS, In addition to expressing their support for

 1-9     incorporation, local voters also chose city officers, and newly

1-10     elected Mayor Gumaro Flores and City Commissioners Alicia Garza and

1-11     Reynaldo Ruiz now enjoy the distinction of being the first to serve

1-12     in their positions; and

1-13           WHEREAS, Blessed with a hard-working and public-spirited

1-14     citizenry, Sullivan City has contributed much to the history,

1-15     culture, and economy of the Lone Star State, and it is indeed

1-16     fitting on this auspicious occasion to recognize this remarkable

1-17     community and its residents; now, therefore, be it

1-18           RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the 75th Texas

1-19     Legislature hereby commemorate the incorporation of Sullivan City

1-20     and congratulate Mayor Gumaro Flores and City Commissioners Alicia

1-21     Garza and Reynaldo Ruiz on their recent election to office; and, be

1-22     it further

1-23           RESOLVED, That an official copy of this resolution be

1-24     prepared for display in Sullivan City as an expression of high

 2-1     regard by the Texas House of Representatives.
